€52 Million Investment Set to Transform Golfe-Juan’s Camille-Rayon Port

What if Vallauris-Golfe-Juan became, like Cannes and Antibes in the surrounding area, a reference in terms of ports?

This is the stated aim of the D-Marin company, which was designated as the new delegate of the Camille-Rayon port by the city last June (for a fee of around 9 million euros per year) for a period of 25 years.

Having officially taken office on July 1st, and after a short transition period, the company – belonging to the Greek group D Marinas Hellas – formalized its future actions during a press conference held at the Théâtre de la Mer on Friday.

“A port of destination”

And to say that the port will move upmarket is certainly an understatement. Because D-Marin, which operates 28 marinas in Europe and the Middle East, totaling more than 14,000 berths, intends to put its mark on the facilities and create a real living district, after a substantial development and an investment of more than 52 million euros.

“This port is 35 years old, has not benefited from many changes and does not have the ecosystem necessary to accommodate boaters,” explained Corinne Reynaud, president of D-Marin France, and Brieuc Audebert, regional director.

“With this in mind, we are going to demineralize and plant the port, create an underground car park in order to benefit from a friendly space on the surface and continuity with the city. Today, everything is concreted, it is very hot, it is very complicated to park and go to restaurants… We want to create a city port for people who are on vacation, who come to eat at the restaurant, who go for a walk or who simply go to the beach. But we also want to make it a destination port.”

An upgrade

The Quai d’honneur is going to undergo a serious facelift. Visual Rudy Ricciotti.

Because, to internationalize its clientele, D-Marin intends to rely on its other ports scattered, in particular, on the shores of the Mediterranean.

Like those of Santo Stefano al Mare, San Lorenzo al Mare or Varazze in Ligure, which are not far from the Côte d’Azur.

“We want yachts, or smaller boats, to be able to spend three days in Vallauris, thanks to an ecosystem capable of welcoming them: restaurants, shops, entertainment, etc. Above all, our commercial offer will allow them to spend a few days for free since they will come and arrive in a port that belongs to the same company.”

In detail, the water area will evolve from 838 places currently to 859 from 2026, offering 633 places in categories less than or equal to 12 meters, 157 in categories between 12 and 20 meters and 69 places for boats over 20 meters.

An underground car park will be created and will increase the number of spaces to around 260 (+100). A renovation of the buildings, the harbor master’s office, the shipyard platform, a raising of the sea wall and the installation of photovoltaic panels and smart terminals allowing boaters to reserve and optimize their energy consumption are planned.

But this move upmarket will undoubtedly lead to an increase in prices for pleasure boaters: +18% for those under 12 metres, +26% on average for others.

Perhaps this is the price to pay for entering a new era…
