E3 2022 has officially been cancelled, with Summer Game Fest

For the second year in a row, E3 in Los Angeles has been officially cancelled. The industry event, which has been so important up to now, will not take place either on site or digitally. However, there is a replacement.

As usual, the organizer had ESA at least planned with a digital programbut apparently there are difficult plans for implementation in the background, which has increasingly frustrated interested participants.

so the official statementthat the event will not take place at all and that a return in 2023 is planned instead.

“We will focus all of our energy and resources on delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer. Whether on the show floor or on your favorite devices, Showcase 2023 will once once more bring the community, media and industry together in a brand new format and interactive experience.”

In general, however, criticism of this type of event is also increasing, forcing publishers to put all their announcements on a short time window. Sony recognized this years ago and said goodbye to the E3, which was no longer considered up-to-date. Instead, they regularly hold their own shows to showcase upcoming products and games, although an E3 conference was always something special.

Summer Games Fest 2022

Instead of the E3, the Summer Game Fest by producer Geoff Keighley will take place, which will include various highlights over several weeks. To this end, aspectacular“ Live Kick-Off, where you can certainly expect one or the other premiere. More details will follow, however, while the start itself is roughly scheduled for June.

In August also takes place gamescom on site once more taking place, including the big opening night, and it cannot be ruled out that one or the other publisher is planning his own show for the summer.
