E3 2022 canceled in physical and digital version, ESA confirms

The biggest gaming show of the year is simply canceled in its physical version and its digital version. If nothing official has yet appeared on the Twitter account or the E3 site, various sources confirm this information.

It’s an earthquake, E3 2022, the most anticipated show of the year, where all the upcoming news, new IPs, extensions and new technologies related to video games are revealed, is simply canceled.

While gamers were initially hoping for a digital version of their favorite lounge, Razer’s Public Relations Manager, Will Powers, confirmed he received an email from E3 services confirming the cancellation of the digital version of the show.

Our colleagues from IGN managed to get their hands on this email and were thus able to verify its authenticity, thus confirming that the E3 2022 video game fair was canceled in all its versions.

Absent, already, in 2020, the ESA had proposed a digital version in 2021 to respond to the COVID-19 crisis, but this year once more, with the outbreak of the epidemic in various countries of the world, it seems that this is compromise.

But why not make a digital version?

It would seem that the organizers of the show prefer to focus their efforts on E3 2023 rather than offering a simple digital version for 2022. In a Press release very short, the ESA (Entertainment Software Association) announces the cancellation, thus confirming what might have been akin to an April Fool’s joke…

The Entertainment Software Association released the following statement at E3 2022:

E3 will return in 2023 with a reinvigorated showcase that celebrates exciting new video games and industry innovations.

We previously announced that E3 would not be held in person in 2022 due to ongoing health risks from COVID-19. Today we are announcing that there will also be no E3 digital showcase in 2022.

Instead, we will devote all of our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer. Whether enjoyed from the show floor or on your favorite devices, the 2023 showcase will bring together community, media and industry in an all-new format and interactive experience.

We look forward to bringing E3 to fans around the world live from Los Angeles in 2023.

Look for more news and announcements soon.

Note, however, that the Summer Game Fest 2022 seems to be maintained.
