E. Macron: the comment about sending troops to Ukraine was considered

He said this after causing a stir with his statement that the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine cannot be ruled out.

Macron said on Monday that “whatever is necessary” must be done to ensure Russia’s defeat in the war against Ukraine, alarming several European allies, including Germany.

“These are serious enough questions; every word of mine on this matter is weighed, considered and evaluated,” E. Macron told reporters on Thursday.

E. Macron refused to comment in more detail.

After a conference of European leaders, the French president said on Monday that although there is no consensus on sending ground troops from Western countries to Ukraine, nothing should be ruled out.

Most of Macron’s European allies have said they will not send troops to Ukraine, and French officials have also argued that the troops could be sent not to fight Russian forces but to support operations such as demining.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his annual address on Thursday that “we also have weapons capable of hitting targets on their territory” and warned of the real danger of nuclear war. These comments by V. Putin seemed to be a response to E. Macron’s refusal to rule out the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine.
