The ingested nicotine increases the tendency to form blood clots and the function of the blood vessels deteriorates. “‘Vaping’ with e-cigarettes is becoming increasingly popular, although there is increasing evidence of negative health effects,” says study author Gustaf Lyytinen from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. Regular use of nicotine is also addictive. E-cigarettes with nicotine would also cause inflammatory reactions in the endothelial cell layer (“inner lining” of blood vessels). The scientists report in their work that other studies have shown increased signs of inflammation in the lower respiratory tract, but also an increase in vascular stiffness.
