The report of the accident on the bypass road in Kehrsatz was received by the operations center shortly following 1.50 p.m., as reported by the SDA. According to previous knowledge, a delivery van was coming from Belp in the direction of Kehrsatz when it collided several times with the guardrail on the right before the Kehrsatz Dorf exit, as the Bern cantonal police announced on Monday evening. The driver of the delivery truck caught the e-bike driver who was traveling in the same direction.
The e-bike handlebar succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident. There are concrete indications of the identity of the deceased, but the formal identification is still pending. After the medical first aid on site, the driver of the delivery truck was taken to the hospital in critical condition with an ambulance, it was said.
Road section closed for several hours
The section of road in question had to be closed for several hours to carry out the accident work. Traffic was diverted by the Regio Belp fire brigade.
According to the announcement, in addition to patrols and special services from the cantonal police in Bern, an ambulance team and a Rega crew were deployed, who drove to the scene of the accident in an emergency vehicle.
