The third division team Dynamo Dresden will travel by plane to their match in Verl on Wednesday (7 p.m.). While this may sound extravagant, there is a practical reason behind it.

However, it’s rather peculiar: there were no hotels available! Coach Thomas Stamm stated, “It was challenging, if not impossible, to find accommodation for the required number of people at the time of the game.”

In fact, all hotel rooms within approximately 60 kilometers of Verl are nearly fully booked. Interestingly, this is not due to the game, which is forecasted to attract around 3,500 spectators (including 1,000 Dynamo fans).

Rather, the “area30” event is drawing a large swarm of visitors from September 21 to 26 in neighboring Löhne near Bielefeld. This is the largest kitchen trade fair in Europe, featuring participants from over 60 countries.

As a result, Dynamo had to revise their plans and ultimately opted for a charter flight. This choice also offers the benefit of a brief arrival and departure time.

The plane is scheduled to depart from Dresden-Klotzsche at around 2 p.m. and will land in Paderborn after approximately one hour of flight. From there, a bus will cover the nearly 30 kilometers to Verl. Immediately following the match, the team will return to Dresden in the same manner.

“This certainly aids in the recovery process, especially during a busy week,” says Coach Thomas Stamm, highlighting an additional advantage: “We can sleep at home before and after the game, in our familiar environment.”

Flying is hardly more expensive than a bus and hotel

It might be hard to believe, but traveling by plane is only slightly more costly than by bus. The team and staff would have needed to stay for two nights on site. Due to the trade fair, hotel prices were often well over 200 euros per night.

The fact remains: Dynamo Dresden can make their way to the Verler Sportclub Arena on Wednesday evening without any significant travel stress. If this leads to three points, that would certainly be a welcome outcome…

Dynamo Dresden’s Innovative Travel Strategy: A Flight to Victory in Verl

A Noble Travel Solution

On Wednesday at 7 p.m., the third-division team Dynamo Dresden will fly to their away game in Verl, which may sound prestigious, but it stems from a pressing need. Coach Thomas Stamm revealed the difficulty of securing hotel accommodations for their traveling squad.

The Hotel Dilemma

Surprisingly, there were no available hotels within a 60-kilometer radius of Verl. Coach Stamm noted, “It was difficult, if not impossible, to find accommodation for the required number of people at the time of the game.” The reason? A significant event—the “area30” kitchen trade fair, running from September 21 to 26 in neighboring Löhne—has led to overwhelming demand for hotel rooms.

Strategic Decision: Charter Flight

Given the circumstance, Dynamo Dresden opted for a charter flight, a decision that not only solved the lodging issue but also minimized travel time. The plane will take off from Dresden-Klotzsche around 2 p.m. and arrive in Paderborn in about one hour. From there, the team will travel approximately 30 kilometers by bus to reach Verl.

Benefits of Flying

Coach Stamm highlighted the advantages of flying: “This helps with the regenerative process, especially in a busy week.” Moreover, both before and after the match, the players can enjoy restful sleep in their familiar home surroundings.

A Cost-Effective Solution

Remarkably, the charter flight is only marginally more expensive than using a bus and booking hotel rooms for an overnight stay. With hotel prices soaring above 200 euros per night due to the fair, flying emerges as an economically viable alternative.

Traveling Smart: Tips for Teams and Fans

Teams, especially those in the lower divisions, can learn from Dynamo Dresden’s innovative approach. Here are some practical tips that could be beneficial for team travels:

  • Early Booking: Reserve accommodations and transport early to avoid last-minute hassles and inflated prices.
  • Alternate Transport: Consider less conventional transport methods, like charter flights, in case of large events in the area.
  • Local Partnerships: Collaborate with local businesses to secure accommodations or transportation deals during high-demand periods.
  • Flexibility: Stay flexible with travel plans, allowing for adjustments based on latest circumstances.

Looking Ahead to the Match

With their travel issues resolved, Dynamo Dresden will arrive at the Verler Sportclub Arena without significant travel stress. This could not only influence player performance positively but also increase their chances of securing three crucial points.
