Ex-Fortune Daferner match winner
Dynamo Dresden caused a surprise in the cup, knocking Fortuna Düsseldorf out of the competition in the first round. League rivals Hamburger SV and Karlsruher SC did better than the Rhinelanders, comfortably beating the underdogs in Meppen and Lotte respectively.
Dresden deservedly won 2-0 (1-0). Christoph Daferner, who played for Fortuna in the second half of last season, put SGD in the lead after 17 minutes. A goal from close range that was officially counted as an own goal by goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier. In front of 29,660 spectators, Robin Meißner scored the preliminary goal (69th minute) to decide the game.
For 45 minutes it was not clear which of the two teams was in the second and which was in the third division. Dynamo forced Fortuna into their half with aggressive, constant pressing, impressed with quick combinations, a high level of running and imaginative moves in front of Kastenmeier’s goal. If there was anything to criticize, it was the final consequence when finishing. Nothing came from Düsseldorf. The guests rarely approached the Dynamo goal, and there was no clear chance in the first half.
That changed after the break. Fortuna now pressed and had great chances through Jona Niemiec (46th) and Felix Klaus (48th), which Dynamo keeper Tim Schreiber thwarted. Dynamo needed ten minutes to calm the game down and set their own accents again. After a fine through pass from Oliver Batista Meier, Meißner scored with a well-considered shot.
KSC and HSV easily overcome cup hurdles in Lotte and Meppen
Karlsruher SC has overcome its first-round trauma in the DFB Cup and has safely reached the second round of the competition. The second division team beat regional league club Sportfreunde Lotte 5-0 (2-0). Karlsruhe had previously been eliminated six times in nine first-round matches, including last year against cup horror 1. FC Saarbrücken.
For the regional league team, which started the championship season with three wins, it was the fifth participation in the main round. The hosts failed four times, once three years ago against KSC (1:4).
The guests got off to an ideal start in the Lotter Kreuz stadium, taking the lead in the 2nd minute through David Herold, who scored from 18 metres. Lotte’s goalkeeper Laurenz Beckemeyer did not cut a good figure. In the 21st minute, Marvin Wanitzek also scored from a distance with a left-footed shot to make it 2-0. An own goal by Johannes Sabah (49th minute), a goal by Georgian international Budu Zivzivadze (69th minute) and a goal by Bambasé Conté (82nd minute) sealed the defeat for the hosts.
Meanwhile, HSV was successful in its very first competitive match against SV Meppen. The Hamburg team beat the regional league team 7-1. Five different goalscorers were on the scoresheet for the Red Shorts: double-packers Immanuel Pherai, Miro Muheim, Davie Selke, Fabio Baldé and Robert Glatzel. An own goal by Meppen’s goalkeeper Julius Pünt made it 6-0. Daniel Haritonov scored Meppen’s consolation goal shortly before the end.
