A strong delegation from Dynamique unitaire/Témoins actif, stayed from August 9 to 11, 2024 in the Canton Ogooué Aval (department of Mulundu) in the province of Ogooué Lolo to thank the populations for having voted victoriously from its cell Jean Remy Yama, president of the said trade union center during the canceled legislative elections of August 26, 2023.

The tour of thanks by members of Dynamique unitaire/Témoins actif to the populations of Canton Ogooué Aval began in the village of Roungassa with the gathering of these on the grave of the wife of Jean Remy Yama, who died in August 2023 during the latter’s preventive detention. This was followed by a thanksgiving mass.

The journey continued in the villages of Boundzi, Mahouiya, Nzela, Madoukou, the village groups of Malendé, Litseghè, Mibambou Lengoye. Roungassa, the village of Jean Remy Yama marked the last stage of this journey which was a great success.

“What you did in the last elections has never happened in Gabon and in Africa: a prisoner who beats people who are free, thank you very much dear people,” rejoiced Roger Ondo Abessolo, vice-president of Dynamique unitaire/Témoins actif and head of the delegation. The latter called on the local populations to “keep your son preciously like an egg.”

Acting President of Dynamique Unitaire/Témoins actif at the time when Jean Remy Yama, leader of this trade union center was in prison, Roger Ondo Abessolo and several of his fellow trade unionists from several provinces of the country, had campaigned in favor of Jean Remy Yama in the Ogooué Aval Canton during the combined legislative elections of the 2023 presidential elections. The trade union leader had been elected with more than 64% from his cell. But the coup d’état of August 30, 2023 which saw the arrival of the military in power did not allow Jean Remy Yama to become a deputy since the institutions were dissolved.

However, he was appointed senator by the President of the Transition, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, who pardoned him by releasing him from prison in September of the same year. As Dynamique Unitaire/Témoins actif, the president of the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI) had made it known that the union leader had been unjustly imprisoned for 17 months (March 2022 to September 2024).

For Dynamique unitaire, Jean Remy Yama had been unjustly sent to prison by the fallen regime of Ali Bongo. The denunciations of the union leader greatly embarrassed the government, which had decided to remove this teacher-researcher of sciences from the civil service. Taking part in the tour of thanks to the populations in the department of Mulundu, Jean Remy Yama did not hide his joy at communing with his people.

“I can tell you that when you stand for just causes, even if you go to prison, even if you go through any tribulation, you will always keep your head high.”he made it clear.
