Without a doubt, the most striking novelty of the iPhones 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max is the Dynamic Island (Dynamic Island). It was the solution found by Apple to replace the notchstill present on the iPhones 14 and 14 Plus, as well as older models.
And thinking of bringing the feature’s functionality to other iPhones, the Italian developer Matthew Zappia created the DynamicCow. The idea of this invention is precisely to simulate the interface of Dynamic Island on older models; it only works on devices running iOS versions 16 through 16.1.2, though.
In addition, DynamicCow installation is not very practical, nor in its use. The “island” takes up a lot of screen space, already occupied by a notchin addition to a red bar being displayed at the top when using the solution on the iPhone 11 — this is, however, a bug to be solved.
Even so, it is interesting to observe how interesting Zappia’s invention is, in addition to being one of those solutions with a more ludic than utilitarian purpose. Anyway, the solution also provides something close to the experience of Dynamic Island for those who don’t have an iPhone 14 Pro [Max].
If you want to test the contraption on your iPhone, make sure it’s not on an iOS version newer than 16.1.2. The process consists of downloading the AltServer to the computer — and adding the Mail plugin to it. Then, connect the iPhone to the Mac and install the AltStore on the smartphone through AltServer. All this must be done as DynamicCow is not available on the App Store.
On iPhone, you must log in to AltStore with your Apple ID. So, you need to access the page on GitHub and the latest files (in “Releases”) must be downloaded. In the AltStore, just add the DynamicCow app, in the “My Apps” part, selecting the downloaded file.
Finally, with DynamicCow installed, just open the app, select which model you want to “emulate” (14 Pro or 14 Pro Max) and that’s it. It is important to remember that if you want to uninstall the app from your iPhone, you must disable feature beforeotherwise you will have to reinstall to be able to disable it.
With all this necessary procedure, it may not be very desirable to install the creation on your device. However, it is still interesting to observe these developer gadgets, as well as to continue to monitor possible improvements.
