Dying Light 2: after the release, what future for the game? Answer with our Interview

Game news Dying Light 2: following the release, what future for the game? Answer with our Interview

Dying Light 2 Stay Human came to an end on February 4, 2022. For the occasion, JV’s editorial staff had the chance to chat with Dawid Lubryka, animation director at Techland. The latter gave us his feelings on the release, as well as what the studio plans for the future of the franchise.

Are you satisfied with the launch of the game?

Yes, the game was well received, we are happy that it came out.

As we said for DL1, we plan to support and develop the game for many years. Being in production, it’s hard to anticipate exactly what the community needs or wants. Once the game is released, we listen to community feedback and are then able to make much more informed decisions. Dying Light 2 Stay Human provides an excellent foundation for the future development of the franchise and all updates and new content.

The first Dying Light had a lot of content, what are your goals with this one?

We plan to power the game for the next 5 years, we will release at least two big DLCs in 2022, in addition to tons of additional content, for example events or skin packs. We will continue to patch the game to fix potential issues and improve quality.

The day / night cycle offers distinct gameplay, where does the idea come from?

It started with Dying Light 1, it’s actually rooted in the very title of the game. When the light “dies”, the horror of the night arrives. In fact, the night in Dying Light 1 was too terrifying for many too many players so a lot of people were skipping it. In Dying Light 2 Stay Human we wanted to balance that, giving players more incentive to keep playing at night, that way we have a lot of content that is specific to the day and night game. This was a natural consequence of the development of the story: the infected are sensitive to light, so they try to move away from it, so that during the day they can stay in buildings and during the night, getting out of them safely to have a better chance of finding prey. This creates a lot of variation in gameplay, but there is a lot more.

Do you have something specific to say to our community?

We’ve been busy leading up to the game’s release, but rest assured we’re not resting on our laurels, we’re working hard to resolve issues reported by the community. The game is here, but it will continue to grow and improve. And also we would like to thank our fans for the great reception to the game, we really appreciate the support.
