DxO brings PhotoLab 6 with further improved noise reduction

DxO PhotoLab 6, the RAW image processing software, once again sets new standards for noise reduction with groundbreaking AI technology

In addition to the brand new DeepPRIME XD noise reduction technology, this new version offers advanced color management with a huge working color space, powerful new retouching tools and improvements to the elegant photo library system.

Paris (France): DxO Labs, the company that pioneered modern RAW imaging and lens correction, today announces the immediate availability of DxO PhotoLab 6, its flagship RAW imaging workflow software. The latest version features DxO DeepPRIME XD, an AI-powered RAW conversion technology that pushes the boundaries of noise reduction and image detail enhancement. It also features a new color management system with an expanded working color space and brand new retouching tools that redefine what photographers can expect from their software. An updated photo library system that allows for easy organization and quick image access completes the new software release.

DxO DeepPRIME technology gets even better

Experts have long considered DxO’s DeepPRIME technology to be the world’s most effective tool for reducing noise and enhancing image detail. Now, DxO PhotoLab 6 introduces the new DeepPRIME XD (eXtreme Details) mode, which brings even more quality to RAW files. Ideal for images captured at high ISO values, it removes noise, restores previously unrecognizable image details and ensures vivid, natural colours.

DeepPRIME XD uses a neural network trained on billions of sample images, giving photographers more than 2.5 stops of improvements across the board. For example, an image captured at ISO 4000 will more closely resemble an image captured at ISO 500 in terms of noise, color and clarity. And since DeepPRIME XD is an integral part of the RAW conversion process, it can even increase dynamic range, giving photographers more flexibility when shooting in low-light situations. The original DeepPRIME mode is also still available. It is intended for faster tweaks or for images that simply require fewer corrections.

“We were thrilled with the response to DeepPRIME in DxO PhotoLab 5, but we knew we could do more,” explains Jean-Marc Alexia, VP Marketing and Product Strategy at DxO. “The new DeepPRIME XD was a year in development and the AI literally taught itself how to improve its work. The results speak for themselves.”

More accurate colors for better images

DxO PhotoLab 6 introduces revised color processing algorithms that push the boundaries of color management and offers a new, expanded working color space. These functions are complemented by a soft-proofing mode that ensures precise colors throughout the workflow and allows the photographer to make targeted corrections according to their intended use – be it to present the photos on a high-resolution screen or to reproduce them as art prints .

These innovations enable authentic color reproduction of even the richest colors and help the photographer to exploit the full potential of the latest monitors and printers.

New tools for powerful retouching

DxO PhotoLab 6 also includes the new ReTouch tool, which expands the possibilities of repairing and cloning in photo editing beyond anything previously seen. Photographers can now transform the source by mirroring, rotating and scaling, or use brushes to more precisely shape the area of the image they are editing. The new tool ensures that complex cloning and repair tasks rarely have to be performed outside of DxO PhotoLab. It speeds up the workflow while ensuring that the editing never strays from the original RAW file and thus remains non-destructive.

A nifty photo library system enables a smarter workflow

Building on the simple but powerful PhotoLibrary system, DxO PhotoLab 6 expands the range of EXIF and IPTC fields, adds the ability to nest projects to the software, and introduces color tagging for easier organization and management of files – all without cumbersome, time-consuming catalogues.

Comprehensive and accurate lens and camera profiles

At the heart of DxO PhotoLab 6 are DxO’s groundbreaking optics modules. Almost 20 years ago, DxO patented the concept of lens corrections and since then, the analysis performed in a purpose-built laboratory has continued to define the standard for the digital photo editing industry. The quality and precision of DxO Optics Modules is unmatched, partly because lenses and cameras are tested in combination, giving photographers profiles that are specifically tailored to their equipment. With the latest modules, automatically available in DxO PhotoLab 6, you can be sure of always getting the best quality results.
