Disney’s upcoming live-action Snow White film is generating significant buzz, but not all of it is positive. Amidst swirling debates, one of the film’s performers, Martin Klebba, is sharing his outlook on the situation. The changes to the premiere event, initially planned as a grand affair, reflect the sensitivity surrounding the project.
Premiere Changes Reflect Concerns
Klebba reveals the premiere will be a more subdued affair. He states, “It really isn’t going to be a red carpet. It’s going to be at the El Capitan [Theater], which is cool. But it’s basically going to be a pre-party, watch the movie, adn that’s it.” He attributes this change to the existing controversy, adding, “Because of all this controversy, they’re afraid of the blowback from different people in society.”
While Klebba notes these changes are due to “the controversy with Rachel,” referring to lead actress Rachel Zegler, he clarifies that he hasn’t received official confirmation. Zegler’s past comments, including her 2022 remarks suggesting she was “not a fan” of the original 1937 animated film due to its dated themes, have fueled some of the criticism.
Dwarfs and Representation: A Contentious Point
The portrayal of the seven dwarfs has been a recurring point of contention.Back in 2022, before filming began, Peter Dinklage voiced concerns about Disney retelling “that fucking backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together.”
Klebba, who voices Grumpy and is the only little person to voice one of the seven miners, offers his thoughts on the matter. “I don’t usually get into the political stuff, but I [felt], ‘Dwarfs aren’t going to go away just as you can’t imagine that they’re there,'” he explains. “we’re still going to be walking around. So I didn’t get the whole stuff about not doing the dwarfs. The story’s been around forever, and it’s a classic.”
He defends the film’s decision to utilize motion-capture animation and VFX for the dwarfs, stating, “If you guys go this route, it just makes sense to be able to draw them the way you wont. This way, they’re all the same size. And to find seven little people actors to pull it off, that’s not an easy thing either.”
The Title Debate: Where Are the Dwarfs?
Klebba also expresses surprise that the new film’s title omits the dwarfs, unlike the 1937 version. “I wish they would’ve kept it,” Klebba says. “I wouldn’t have gone away from that. But the marketing people know what they’re doing.”
Beyond Snow White: A Call for Diversity in Marvel
Klebba, who also stars alongside Chris Pratt in Netflix’s The Electric State, touches upon representation in another major franchise. “I’ve been waiting forever for somebody to write something for the Marvel Universe, rather of all these beatiful-looking guys like Chris Pratt — let’s have somebody different,” he quips. “Let’s see some people that aren’t exactly nature’s wonder.”
Moving Forward: Balancing Tradition and Modern Sensibilities
The Snow White reboot highlights the challenges of adapting classic stories for contemporary audiences. Balancing respect for the original material with a commitment to inclusivity and progressive representation is a delicate act. While the film faces criticism, it also presents an opportunity to spark meaningful conversations about diversity and the evolution of storytelling.

Snow White Reboot: Martin klebba on Controversy, representation, and the Missing Dwarfs
The upcoming live-action Snow White reboot has been a hot topic, sparking debate about representation and adaptation.Archyde’s Film Critic,Eleanor vance, sat down with Martin Klebba, who voices Grumpy in the film,to discuss the controversy, the missing dwarfs in the title, and his thoughts on diversity in Hollywood.
Premiere Changes and the Weight of Expectations
Eleanor Vance: Martin, thanks for joining us. It’s been quite a journey leading up to the Snow White premiere. can you tell us a bit about the changes to the event itself?
Martin Klebba: Absolutely, Eleanor. It’s great to be here. Yes, the premiere is definitely scaled back from what was initially planned. It’s going to be at the El Capitan, which is fantastic, but it’s more of a pre-party followed by the screening. No huge red carpet extravaganza.
Eleanor Vance: Do you believe the controversy surrounding the film, notably Rachel Zegler’s comments and the portrayal of the dwarfs, played a role in that decision?
Martin Klebba: while nothing’s official, it truly seems like the studio is being cautious. There’s been a lot of noise online, and I think they want to avoid potential blowback. It’s a sensitive time, and everyone’s trying to navigate it as best they can in the Snow White reboot.
Dwarfs and Representation: A Difficult Balance
Eleanor Vance: the representation of the seven dwarfs has been a major talking point. Peter Dinklage voiced concerns early on. How do you, as both an actor and a member of the little person community, feel about the choices made in this adaptation?
Martin Klebba: I understand Dinklage’s viewpoint, but I also believe dwarfs aren’t going anywhere. I didn’t get the whole thing about not doing the dwarfs. The story’s been around forever, and it’s a classic.” I see both sides. The filmmaking team wanted to be respectful while also modernizing the story. And the technology to do that has improved. Also,to find seven little people actors to pull it off, that’s not an easy thing either.
The Title Omission: Where Are the Dwarfs?
Eleanor Vance: One surprising change is the title itself – just “Snow White,” omitting the “and the Seven Dwarfs.” What’s your take on that?
Martin Klebba: I wish they would’ve kept it. I wouldn’t have gone away from that. But the marketing people know what they’re doing,” I trust their judgment, but as you can imagine, I was hoping for that nostalgic link.
Beyond Snow White: A Call for Diversity in Marvel
Eleanor Vance: Shifting gears a bit. You also mentioned hoping to see more diverse representation within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Could you elaborate on that?
Martin klebba: I’ve been waiting forever for somebody to write something! not to knock Chris Pratt or any of those guys—they are great. But hopefully this spurs conversation and those in-charge see we are here and beautiful too.
Eleanor Vance: Martin, is this perhaps a shift where fairy tails and othre popular franchises also include a broader vision of casting and characters?
Martin Klebba: That is my hope!
Balancing Tradition and Modern Sensibilities: A Final Thought
Eleanor Vance: As we wrap up, what’s the key takeaway you hope audiences will have from this new Snow White?
Martin Klebba: I hope audiences can see that it will never be the older versions, but we also are trying to show respect while going forward. I hope to see future franchises start to consider the new view!
Eleanor Vance: Martin, thank you so much for your insights, and we wish you the best with the film’s release.
Martin Klebba: Great talking with you!
