Dutchman Robert de Groot will succeed current vice-president Kris Peeters on the management committee of the European Investment Bank (EIB) on February 1, the institution announced this week.
Robert de Groot joins the EIB following a career at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during which he held various positions since 1988. Between 1998 and 2002, he was advisor on European affairs to the Prime Minister Dutch, Wim Kok. In 2017, he became the permanent representative of the Netherlands to the European Union.
An economist by training, he holds a master’s degree from the Erasmus University of Rotterdam.
Former Flemish Minister-President and Deputy Prime Minister CD&V, Kris Peeters, was elected to the European Parliament in 2019. He joined the EIB Management Committee in January 2021 and became Vice-President, a position which had been vacant since 2018.
