Dutchman Olaf Koe joined the list of champions who won the 2024 UAE Tour stages, following winning the fifth stage, “Fujairah Stage,” which was held today, “Friday,” as part of the sixth edition of the only global race in the Middle East, within the framework of the UCI calendar, which It is organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, with the participation of 140 cyclists representing 20 international teams.

The efforts of 22-year-old Koi were crowned with success and he topped the podium for the first time in his third participation in the Tour, especially following coming third in the fourth stage in Dubai, and second in two previous editions.

The victory of the Visma team rider in the fifth stage was exciting, and was decided by the “final photography” technique, as he entered the finish line with the brilliant Belgian Tim Merlier, the Soudal Quick Step team rider, but the result went in favor of Olaf Koe, depriving Merlier of winning three stages in the 2024 Tour edition.

The Dutch cyclist covered the 182-kilometre stage, the longest stage of the UAE Tour, in a time of 4:08:38 hours, beating second-place finisher Tim Merler by fractions of a second, and Australian Sam Welsford, a Bora Hansgrohe team rider, who finished the stage in third place.

The stage champion and T-shirt winners were crowned by Sheikh Majid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Chairman of the Department of Tourism and Antiquities in the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain, and Sheikh Ahmed bin Nasser Al Mualla, in the presence of Arif Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and His Excellency Haitham Sultan Al Ali, Director General of the Department of Tourism. And the antiquities in Umm Al Quwain, Maryam Al Mansouri, representative of the International Holding Company, Khalifa bin Omair, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Cycling Federation, Ahmed Al Ghafli, Security Director at Nakheel, and Nidal Al Ashqar, representative of Bin Hamouda Company.
