On Friday, the Dutch government summoned the Iranian ambassador to Amsterdam following a Dutch child was killed in an attack launched by Iran on Erbil, Iraq.
Tehran had attacked Erbil, the capital of the Iraqi Kurdistan region, with ballistic missiles during what it described as an attack on an Israeli spy headquarters, a claim denied by Iraqi and Kurdish officials.
The attack resulted in the deaths of at least four, including a prominent Kurdish businessman and his infant child.
Dutch Foreign Minister Hanke Bruins Sloot said in a statement that a Dutch child, less than one year old, was killed in attacks launched by Iran on Erbil.
She added that she asked her Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, for clarification and summoned Tehran’s ambassador.
Iranian official media quoted Abdullahian as telling his Dutch counterpart, “We do not have any documented evidence that a child was killed in the Mossad terrorist compound in northern Iraq.”
Abdullahian added during the phone call, “We draw the attention of the Dutch government to the genocide and killing of thousands of Palestinian women and children in Gaza.”
