Dusseldorf The leading German index Dax worked its way into the profit zone for a short time on Monday when the US stock exchanges opened, but then slipped back into the red. In the afternoon, the Frankfurt stock exchange barometer was down 0.1 percent at 15,815 points. At times it was 0.7 percent in the red.

If the Dax were to close in the black, it would end its five-day series of losses. No negative series had lasted longer this year.

The majority of profit-taking was cited as the reason for the falling prices. Now buyers dare to come onto the floor again, but act very cautiously.

The situation in Russia also contributes to this. At the weekend, the heavily armed mercenary group Wagner, led by former Putin confidant Yevgeny Prigoschin, first started a march towards Moscow. On Saturday evening Russia announced an agreement with the result that Prigozhin withdraws into exile in Belarus.
