Exactly one week before October 7th, commemorative events commemorating the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel a year ago are starting here in Düsseldorf today (September 30th, 2024). The city’s official commemoration event will take place today from 6 p.m. in the rooms of the memorial.

A panel discussion will take place in the Beatrice Strauss Center at the memorial. The patron is Mayor Stephan Keller. Those affected from Jewish institutions report on the past twelve months under the impression of ever-increasing anti-Semitism. The second part of the evening is dedicated to the question of how civil society in the city of Düsseldorf deals with the challenges of anti-Semitism and what measures have been taken or are planned. On October 7, the city will raise the Israeli flag with mourning ribbon in front of the city hall and remember the victims and hostages of the attack.

Tomorrow (October 1, 2024) there will also be an event in the Maxhaus – among other things in cooperation with the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation.
