Heavy, torrential rains have triggered a state of emergency in the UAE. The 75-year record of rainfall in the Emirates has been broken. Khaleej Times reported in a report that many citizens sheltered the distressed people in their homes, away from their homes during the rains.
Record rainfall in UAE on Tuesday. It was the heaviest rainfall on record since 1949. The National Meteorological Center said that 254 mm of rain was recorded in Khatam Al Shakla area of Al Ain in less than 24 hours. On March 9, 2016, Shoaib station of the same center recorded 287.6 mm of rain.
The government faced severe difficulties in coping with the sudden change in weather conditions. Immediate steps were taken to ensure the safety of citizens. Experts say that there may be more dangerous and record-breaking rains in the coming days.
