Explaining that weekly and monthly tickets are not free, the Hanoi Department of Transport said that these two types of tickets are preferential compared to regular single-trip tickets and allow unlimited trips during the ticket validity period.

At the same time, weekly and monthly tickets also apply 50% discount policies for groups of students, industrial park workers. The current monthly ticket price is quite low compared to the average income of workers.

Furthermore, to make weekly and monthly tickets free, additional days of use need to be added for passengers. According to operating units, this work complicates the information technology infrastructure system. The Department of Transport proposes to only apply free single-trip tickets, daily bus and train tickets during 11 holidays and Tet.
