Duplantis sets best mark of the year outdoors with 6.12 meters in Ostrava

OSTRAVA, Czech Republic (AP) — Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis raised his best outdoor season world record of 6.12 meters at the Golden Spike athletic meet.

The 23-year-old world record holder Duplantis improved his previous outdoor mark this season of 6.11 meters, set in Hengelo, Netherlands.

Duplantis managed 6.12 meters on his first attempt before failing for 6.17.

“I tried to do my best as always and I am very happy that I won with 6.12,” Duplantis told Czech public television.

Born in the United States, Duplantis competes for Sweden. On February 25, he set a world record of 6.22 meters in the indoor event in Clermont, France.

Another world record holder, American shot putter Ryan Crouser dominated the competition following reaching a record of 22.63 meters to surpass his mark on the Golden Spike.

Puerto Rican Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn kept her unbeaten record of the season in the 100 meter hurdles, clocking 12.42 seconds.

In addition, the South African Akani Simbine was the fastest in the 100 meters, crossing the finish line in 9.98 seconds, surpassing the 10.15 of the Italian Samuele Ceccarelli, European champion in the 60 meters indoor.

In the 200 metres, South African Luxolo Adams won the event with a time of 20.22 seconds.

Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga won the 400m with a time of 45.05 seconds, beating South African Zakithi Nene who clocked 45.22.

Slovenian Kristjan Ceh won the discus throw, reaching 68.55 meters on his last attempt.
