Many have known Duolingo as an application to learn languages, but this time the gamified education platform is expanding its frontiers to, in addition to mathematics, offer a course in a different language — music.
Duolingo Music was announced by the company on Wednesday and will be demonstrated for the first time on October 11 during Duocon, the platform’s annual free online education event. The company will still give more details regarding the event and its transmission.
Like the language and math courses, the new course promises to teach how to read music and play more than two hundred well-known melodies. The idea is that all courses, in the near future, will be gathered in the same application. Until then, the math course was separate in the Duolingo Math app.
There will be a menu where the user can switch between each of the three courses offered so far.
“We know that math and music, like language, transcend cultures and connect people,” says Severin Hacker, co-founder and chief technology officer of Duolingo in a press release. “Soon, you’ll be able to learn math and music in the same Duolingo app – all with the same fun, engaging and effective experience you’ve come to expect from learning languages with us.”
The music course is being tested for a limited number of users, and as of October 11th, students will be able to sign up to try out the course, which still does not support Brazilian Portuguese, but in English and Spanish.
And you, have you taken advantage of any courses in the app? Leave your comment!
