Among the titles that opened the show at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live was a new video game adaptation of the Dune saga. Frank Herbert’s novel is going to be ported to consoles and PC in an open-world survival MMO named Dune : Awakening.
A new adventure on Arrakis
It’s Funcom, a Norwegian studio to whom we owe Conan Exiles, which is in charge of the project under the Level Infinite label of Chinese Tencent. This new title in the famous sci-fi universe, which is definitely in the spotlight, is described as an open-world survival MMO. You will have to do everything to take control of the Spice and Arrakis.
Survive the most dangerous planet in the universe. Build shelters from sandstorms, maintain your suit, and master ancient ways to walk even the deepest deserts. Avoid or be devoured by the colossal sandworms that live beneath the sands.
Explore the ever-changing face of Arrakis. Walk the ruins of long-forgotten biological testing stations, search the wreckage of fallen spaceships, and roam the dusty hallways of derelict sietches. Head to uncharted sectors and be the first to discover secrets and riches before the Coriolis storms shift the sands once more and alter the landscape.
Control the spice, control Arrakis. Hunt spice blossoms and deploy your harvester, then protect it from opportunistic raiders and rival factions. Soak the sands in blood as massive battles transition seamlessly from walking to vehicles and from ground to ornithopters in the sky.
Make plans within plans. Make a name for yourself among the people of Arrakis. Wield intrigue and force to influence the Landsraad and impact the world. Build your own faction through spice harvesting, trading, subterfuge and open conflict.
Wake the sleeper. Customize every aspect of your character. Consume spices to conquer your senses and gain powerful abilities. Perfect your art to be sought following for the best creations. Build your fortress in the style of your choice. It’s up to you to shape the journey.
It is in collaboration with Legendary Pictures, the studio behind the recent film adaptation of Dune by Denis Villeneuve, that this new game is produced. We can then imagine that the artistic direction should join that of the film, which the first images of the game tend to prove it.
If little information is known, the developers are already offering to register to participate in a future beta of the game which will be released on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
