Quebec filmmaker Denis Villeneuve and actors Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya gave a taste of the sequel to the sci-fi film DuneTuesday, in Las Vegas, as part of the CinemaCon event.
A first trailer for the film was unveiled to people from the industry present on site at this major annual meeting of cinema exhibitors.
Accompanied on stage by Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, Denis Villeneuve described Dunes: Part 2 as an “epic action-packed war movie” and “much denser” than the first. “We shot in several new places. Everything is new in the film,” added the filmmaker.
Villeneuve also mentioned having shot the entire Dune 2 in IMAX, while only 40% of the first part had been filmed in IMAX.
Timothée Chalamet underlined that his character of Paul Atreides – the hero of the saga – was gaining in maturity in the second film. “In the first movie, he’s a student. In the second, he becomes a leader,” said the actor.
The second part of Dune is expected on our screens on November 3. Released in the fall of 2021, the first film in the saga generated more than $400 million at the global box office.
