On the occasion of International Giant Panda Day on October 27, Dujiangyan City in Sichuan Province announced its participation in the “Panda Homeland Culture” creativity competition. Hosted by the Chengdu government, it aims to help make Chengdu a world-leading center for cultural and creative initiatives on the theme of panda.
As an important part of the Dujiangyan Panda Creative Project, Dujiangyan will select a giant panda as its ambassador with the help of the National Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center. This panda will form the starting point of a unique intellectual property system that combines Dujiangyan’s history, culture and environment to promote the city’s branding.
The city will engage participants in various categories such as sculpture, painting, video and design to showcase the diverse cultural value of intellectual property surrounding the giant panda and promote its use in public spaces, tourism and digital applications.
A local culture and tourism group will lead a cultural innovation platform for giant pandas, promoting collaboration and mutual benefit among participants. Which panda will represent the city of Dujiangyan will be announced soon.
Li Yue, director of Dujiangyan’s publicity department, said Dujiangyan will promote giant panda intellectual property culture, strengthen the panda culture industry, and help Chengdu become a global center of giant panda culture and showcase the city as a key player.
During the subsequent salon on the creation of cultural and creative intellectual property rights for giant pandas, leading representatives of the domestic cultural and creative industry and artists discussed the creation and implementation of cultural and creative intellectual property rights for giant pandas.
Zhou Xiaodong, general manager of Chengdu Dujiangyan Investment Development Group, cited cooperation opportunities for the Dujiangyan giant panda project. The group plans to create giant panda-themed facilities in the city, including restaurants, hotels and cultural venues.
In recent years, Dujiangyan has expanded giant panda-related tourism, organized various events and created related brands. It was named the best location for the Panda National Park pilot project and selected as a model city for promoting panda-friendly products.
Fu Yuxiang, a renowned international sculptor and co-chair of the Panda Homeland Culture creativity competition, invited creatives from around the world to present pioneering, innovative works that bring the giant panda to the world stage.
To date, more than 100 artists, creatives and companies from countries and regions such as Japan, the United States, Uruguay and Norway have taken part in the competition.

**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Wang. Can you start by telling us about the significance of International Giant Panda Day and how it relates to Dujiangyan’s participation in the “Panda Homeland Culture” creativity competition?
**Wang Li:** Thank you for having me! International Giant Panda Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate these incredible animals and raise awareness about their conservation. Our participation in the “Panda Homeland Culture” competition allows us to showcase not only the giant panda but also the rich cultural heritage of Dujiangyan. By connecting the panda with our local history and environment, we hope to create a unique cultural narrative that respects and celebrates both.
**Editor:** That sounds exciting! Can you elaborate on what the “Panda Creative Project” entails and how the chosen panda ambassador will play a role in this?
**Wang Li:** Absolutely! The Panda Creative Project is designed to leverage the giant panda as a symbol of our city, and the selected ambassador panda will act as a focal point for our initiatives. Working with the National Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center, we will develop a unique intellectual property system that merges the panda’s symbolism with Dujiangyan’s identity. This will include various cultural and artistic expressions that highlight both the panda and our local environment.
**Editor:** You mentioned that the competition includes various categories such as sculpture, painting, video, and design. What are some of your expectations for these artistic submissions?
**Wang Li:** We are thrilled to see the diverse interpretations of the giant panda and how artists express their creativity through different mediums. Our expectation is that these submissions will reflect not only the beauty of the panda but also innovative ways to incorporate it into public spaces, tourism, and digital platforms. We want to see how artists can inspire and engage the community, making the panda an integral part of Dujiangyan’s cultural landscape.
**Editor:** How will this initiative benefit the local community and tourism in Dujiangyan?
**Wang Li:** By highlighting the giant panda through cultural initiatives, we hope to attract more tourists to Dujiangyan, which will, in turn, benefit local businesses and the economy. Furthermore, this project is about community engagement and fostering collaboration among artists, historians, and local entities. The cultural innovation platform we’re establishing will allow participants to share their ideas and benefit mutually, creating a vibrant cultural scene centered around the panda.
