The parliamentarian appealed to the minister to respond to “a very worrying situation, when independent electricity suppliers are once more drastically increasing prices for neither this nor that”.
“At a time when the stock exchange recorded a significant decrease in electricity prices, April 14. recorded the lowest price on the stock exchange since 2018 June, – some independent electricity suppliers in Lithuania suddenly started increasing the tariffs of their fixed plans.
For example, tariffs are being increased by the state-owned company Ignitis, as well as by the private company Elektrum Lietuva. They say they do so based on the price forecast for the future. It’s very strange”, comments E. Sabutis.
The parliamentarian believes that electricity suppliers seek to increase profits by taking advantage of consumers’ ignorance.
“This is a way to hedge once morest possible price fluctuations in the future at the expense of consumers. The situation is unfortunate, because the fixed price plan should act as a protection mechanism once morest price increases, not as a basis for price increases!”
It’s not the first time that suppliers demonstrate the ability to “turn” everything to their advantage,” the social democrat wonders.
Addressing D. Kreivis, the parliamentarian reminds the minister of his duty to “form state policy in the field of electricity”.
“With the largest electricity suppliers raising prices once more, we must return to the issue of abuse of a dominant position in the electricity supply market.
The Ministry of Energy, together with VERT, should analyze the pricing decisions of independent electricity suppliers. We urge the minister to initiate an investigation and assess the validity of price increases by independent electricity suppliers, to take steps to ensure transparency and fairness in the electricity market.
It is also necessary to revise the regulatory system in order to prevent possible abuse of a dominant position in the market”, urges Social Democrat member of the Seimas E. Sabutis.
