Due to lack of confidence in results, municipal elections face disruption from Opposition and “Free Patriotic” blocs.

Samir Geagea, the head of the Lebanese Forces party, released a statement regarding the upcoming legislative session on Tuesday. He states that the opposition parties and the “Free Patriotic Movement” are not attending the session to avoid a vacuum in the municipal and elective sites, but rather to block the necessary budget approval for the elections. Geagea clarifies that the President has already called for a government meeting on Tuesday to secure the approval needed for the elections, and therefore there is no reason to prevent its completion on time. He also mentions that the Minister of the Interior has confirmed the administrative and logistical readiness for the elections as long as the necessary budget is approved. Geagea concludes that the opposition parties and the “Free Patriotic Movement” have been obstructing the elections due to their lack of confidence in the results that will arise from the electoral process. He emphasizes that their only concern is their own interests and not the constitutional dates and institutional regularity.

The head of the Lebanese Forces party, Samir Geagea, issued the following statement:

Those who claim that they are going to Tuesday’s legislative session in order to avoid a vacuum in the municipal and elective sites, especially the blocs of the opposition parties and the “Free Patriotic Movement”, but their claim is false, given that President Mikati called for a meeting of the government on Tuesday and on his agenda is the item of securing the necessary approval to conduct Municipal and elective elections, and therefore the balance of this entitlement has become secured, and there is absolutely no reason to prevent its completion on time.

As for the administrative and logistical readiness, I will mention once more that the Minister of the Interior, who is the primary and main concern with the municipal elections, has repeatedly confirmed his readiness “administratively and logistically” to hold them as long as the necessary budget is approved to complete them.

The blocs of the opposition parties and the “Free Patriotic Movement” obstructed all the past period the course of the municipal elections under flimsy pretexts, until they were forced to “fabricate” a legislative session on the same day, in which it was decided to spend the necessary appropriation for the completion of these elections, for one unified goal, which is an attempt to block the road to securing The required budget for this benefit and then “flying it.”

It has become known to all the Lebanese that the opposition parties blocs and the “Free Patriotic Movement” are obstructing the municipal and elective elections out of foresight and determination for one reason: their lack of confidence in the results that will result from the electoral process.

It is also clear that respect for constitutional dates and deadlines and institutional regularity, for these blocs “in the news of Kan”, how not, and their only basic concern is limited to their narrow and private interests and nothing else.

In conclusion, the obstructive tactics of the opposition parties blocs and the “Free Patriotic Movement” have been exposed as nothing more than an attempt to avoid the results of municipal and elective elections. With the necessary budget secured and the Minister of the Interior ready for administrative and logistical preparations, there should be no reason to delay these important democratic processes. It is important for all Lebanese citizens to uphold respect for constitutional dates and deadlines and to prioritize the interests of the country over narrow personal agendas. Only through fair and transparent elections can true democracy be achieved.
