As a result of the heavy rains recorded in the southern municipality of Tejupilco, the overflow of the Rincón de López River caused an emergency that affected around 400 homes in Colonia Juárez and Lomas de Tejupilco.

State and municipal authorities, led by Adrián Hernández Romero, General Coordinator of Civil Protection and Comprehensive Risk Management of the Government of the State of Mexico, responded together with municipal authorities by quickly setting up a shelter in the Auditorium of the Sports Unit for those affected.

According to Hernández Romero, fortunately there were no injuries or deaths reported as a result of this event, as had initially been reported on social media.

However, the situation was alarming because the overflow of the river, taking into account the upper parts of the municipality, where the water receded, combined with large amounts of mud and garbage, swept away a total of 20 private vehicles and 3 scooters, said the authorities of the State of Mexico.

The Municipal Civil Protection and Fire Unit reported that the sites with the greatest accumulation of water in Tejupilco include the streets of the 4th Section and Rincón de López. In addition, a significant landslide was reported on Federal Highway 134, specifically in the Community of Ojo de Agua, which further complicates the situation for residents and rescue efforts.

In response to the emergency, elements of Civil Protection from both the state and the municipality were rapidly deployed, along with personnel from the Ministry of Security, the municipal police, the Water Commission of the State of Mexico (CAEM), and the state Highway Board.

These teams are working in a coordinated manner to meet the needs of the population, restore order and assess the damage.

The shelter set up at the Sports Unit has been equipped to provide shelter and assistance to those affected, while authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide support to those affected. Despite the difficulties, the prompt response of the authorities has been crucial to mitigate the impact of this climate emergency.

Residents have been urged to remain alert to warnings from authorities and take necessary precautions to avoid additional risks, given that weather conditions could continue to present challenges in the coming days.

Clean-up and damage assessment work continues, with the priority being to restore normality in the affected areas and provide comprehensive support to all affected families.
