in the guard of hospitalcases of influenza and other respiratory conditions exceeded consultations by coronavirus. COVID, from the vaccination campaign, causes fewer cases that require medical attention and the cases are so low that there is currently no report on the health situation. The pandemic, however, has consequences that still impact the health system. Among the various pathologies, the need for care emerges in mental health.
From the Pedro Moguillansky hospital they affirmed that the clinical pictures derived from the infection with COVID-19 are very varied and appear up to two or three months following overcoming the disease. They range from coronary to urological pathologies, so patients continue in the recovery stage.
The infections gave “a respite,” said the director of the hospital, Claudia Muñoz. However, the footprint of the pandemic is visible. “The mental health service is overcrowded and with waiting lists for care. It’s something that shouldn’t happen, but the demand grew a lot,” she assured.
Muñoz affirmed that “the increase in demand occurred in the community and health personnel. There was a very marked increase in consultations.”
“The pictures vary. There are patients with anxiety, others with depression and people who had relapses of basic pathologies. The older adult is the one who suffered the most from isolation, but also among young people,” said the doctor.
In addition, other problems linked to the pandemic and quarantine are noted. “An increase in addictions has been seen, not only alcohol and drugs, but also tobacco. The inheritance of COVID in other pathologies is very important,” she concluded.
