Due to an unaccounted “penalty kick”.. Efforts to replay the Spain-Germany match in “Euro 2024”

A refereeing incident caused a lot of controversy at the end of the first extra time of the match between Spain and Germany (2-1) that took place last Friday evening at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart.

The German national team players demanded a penalty kick, following the ball, which was shot powerfully by German player Jamal Musiala from the edge of the penalty area, hit the hand of Spanish defender Marc Cucurella, and changed its course to go out of the field.

But the English international referee, Anthony Taylor (45 years old), did not count anything for the German “Mannschaft”, and the video assistant referee “VAR” did not intervene.

Eric, the founder of the petition on the Change.org website, explained that this step comes as a result of several wrong decisions by referee Anthony Taylor during the match that ended with Spain winning (2-1) following resorting to extra time.

The incident caused a great deal of controversy, but the European Football Association “UEFA” supported referee Anthony Taylor’s decision not to award a penalty kick in favor of the German national team in its match once morest Spain, in the quarter-finals of the “Euro 2024” tournament, currently being held in Germany.

The Athletic newspaper said: “UEFA believes that the decision was made correctly, because according to the refereeing guidelines issued before the tournament, Cucurella’s hand was not in an abnormal position.”

More than 315,000 people had signed the petition by Sunday morning, but it was a gesture of morale alone, as Spain prepare to face France on Tuesday evening in the semi-finals of Euro 2024.
