Duchess Meghan: Curious patent request: Your podcast is causing a stir again

A few days ago it was announced that in the summer the long-awaited Spotify podcast “Archetypes” from Herzogin Meghan (40, born Meghan Markle) should start. Around 18 months following signing the contract finally goes a heart project of the wife of Prince Harry (37) on air. In talks with various historians and experts, the mother of two wants to try to get to the bottom of female stereotypes.

But with the title “Archetypes” now threatens new turbulence. The reason: Duchess Meghan wants to protect the centuries-old term as a brand. According to “dailymail.co.uk”, a corresponding application has been received by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Duchess Meghan wants to patent the title of her Spotify podcast “Archetypes”.

The problem with this trademark application is that the word “archetype” is very common and appears in the title of many goods and services. Companies that have already made a name for themselves with the name over the years might also be affected.

Duchess Meghan’s patent application is intended to protect her project

The application, which was officially made by “Archewell Audio” – a company founded by Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan – also serves to protect themselves, according to “dailymail.co.uk”. This is to ensure that Duchess Meghan is not sued by other companies that use this name, it said. For example, there is a company called Archetypes that is known for its skin care and cleansing products and has established itself as a brand.

“Archetype” (in German: stereotype) comes from ancient Greek and was first introduced into English usage around the 1540s.

So far there has only been one podcast episode since the end of 2020

Since retiring as senior royals and moving to the United States, the Sussexes have struggled financially on their own feet stand. They landed lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify. Only there was only so far a single podcast episodewhich aired as a Christmas special in late 2020.

The “Archetypes” podcast, moderated by Duchess Meghan, is scheduled to start regularly in the summer. In a trailer, the 40-year-old says: “That’s how we talk regarding women. But where do these clichés come from? And why do they keep popping up and determining our lives?” She adds, “This is ‘Archetypes’ – the podcast where we dissect, explore and subvert the labels that try to keep us stuck.” She also announced that she would talk to women regarding their experiences on the subject. “And I’m going to talk to historians to understand how we got here in the first place.”
