Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company to generate 1800 MW of electricity from solar energy. The new panels will be installed at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. With this, the solar park will get the title of the world’s largest solar power center where solar panels are installed at a specific location to generate electricity. The world’s largest solar farm will be created in the sixth phase of the Solar Park development project. With this, Dubai is taking a big step from petroleum source to green source for energy production. The production cost of solar power is less than Dh8 per kilowatt.

Diva informed that the aim is to change Dubai into a green economy by switching to energy sources that do not cause air pollution. This is a major change that supports Dubai’s goal of zero carbon emissions by 2050. By 2050, carbon emissions from power generation will be completely eliminated.

Once the project is completed, Dubai will eliminate 65 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions per year. The solar panels will be operational by the end of next year. Currently, 2,327 MW of electricity is generated from solar energy.
