The Cup competitions this year, as in previous years, witness the participation of the best and strongest horses in the world, and return to a group of the most important and prominent horse owners, breeders and trainers, and are ridden by the most skilled knights in the world. It is noteworthy that the Dubai World Cup for Horse Racing was launched in the year 1996, and the competitions of its first edition were held at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse in Dubai, as a result of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which aimed at that time to make Dubai a destination for international athletes, especially at the level of horse racing. The horse “Cigar”, owned by Allen Paulson, was crowned champion of the first edition of the Cup, led by jockey Jerry Bailey.
