Dubai to Host 2025 Champions Trophy as Pakistan’s Hosting Chances Fade

Dubai: Pakistan’s chances of hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy have faded. As India-Pakistan diplomatic relations remain volatile, the idea is to move the match outside Pakistan. Instead, the tournament will reportedly be held in the UAE or in a hybrid model like the 2023 Asia Cup.

The last ICC Champions Trophy was held in 2017. Pakistan won the tournament in England following defeating India in the final.

Pakistan was also the sole host of the 2023 Asia Cup as per the scheduling. But since India was not ready to travel to Pakistan, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) decided to split the matches between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Pakistan hosted only four matches. Sri Lanka hosted all of India’s matches, including the final.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board has approached the ICC seeking compensation for its hosting rights if the tournament is not held in Pakistan.

Pakistan last hosted a full tournament in the 2008 Asia Cup. Pakistan wanted full hosting of the 2025 Champions Trophy despite splitting the tournament in 2023. But according to the reports coming out, the BCCI and the Government of India are not ready to make any compromise, so the ICC has no choice but to think regarding other venues.
