(SenePlus) – According to an investigation by the Afrique XXL site, Dubai has become the new Eldorado of ill-gotten wealth in Central Africa. An analysis of the Center for Advanced Defense Studies database made it possible to identify no less than 72 ministers, deputies, businessmen from Cemac countries owning luxury real estate in Dubai, for a total value of more than of 50 million euros.

Among these controversial owners, Cameroonian MP Moufta Halia Moussa owns no less than eight apartments estimated at 13.8 million euros. Chadian businessman Hissein Bourma Ibrahim, brother-in-law of the late Idriss Déby, reportedly owns a villa, seven apartments and a shopping center worth more than $7 million. The family of the former Chadian president reportedly owns more than $2.3 million in assets.

Another prominent figure identified, Marie-Madeleine Mborantsuo, former president of the Gabonese Constitutional Court, as well as several close collaborators of Congolese President Denis Sassou-N’Guesso. “It is worrying to see civil servants such as judges or elected officials such as deputies investing in Dubai without clear declaration of their assets,” laments Jean Mballa Mballa of Cradec.

Contacted, MP Moufta Halia Moussa did not respond. Just like the Congolese minister Raymond Zéphirin Mboulou, who denies anything good in Dubai despite his presence in the database. For experts, “Dubai has become the new Eldorado of our authorities” because it is “more discreet”, notes Claude Hyepdo of Transparency International Cameroon. An enrichment which is often done “to the detriment of local development”, denounces the Chadian NGO Transparence+.
