In the presence of Sheikh Abdullah bin Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the activities of the first day of the Jiu-Jitsu Championship were launched, organized by the Dubai Sports Council, in cooperation with the Jiu-Jitsu Federation, as part of the Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament competitions.
The tournament was attended by Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice President of the Jiu-Jitsu Federation, Nasser Aman Al Rahma, Assistant Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council, a number of members of the tournament’s organizing committee, and officials of the federation, clubs and participating academies.
Amidst a wide participation of male and female players representing various clubs and academies in the junior and senior categories, Al Ain Club was able to achieve first place in the junior category, while the Kazakhstan National Academy players came in second place, and Al Jazira Club in third place.
In the teachers category, Palms Sports Academy took the lead, Commando Group Academy came in second place, and Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club came in third.
The competitions of the first day of the tournament were characterized by an atmosphere full of enthusiasm and club, amid the presence of a large crowd, and the players of the participating clubs and academies from the junior and senior categories presented a strong performance on the mat, in the presence of a group of the most prominent internationally ranked players.
Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice President of the Jiu-Jitsu Federation, appreciated the continuous cooperation and coordination with the Dubai Sports Council in organizing the tournament, stressing that Jiu-Jitsu competitions continue to consolidate their position as one of the competitive sports with a dominant presence in the leading sports tournament, and this is evidenced by its attracting wide-ranging participation from Various clubs and academies, which is in line with the Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s strategy of spreading the sport and organizing events throughout the year, and providing an ideal environment that contributes to developing the players’ skills, refining their talent, and enhancing their readiness to compete in the upcoming local and international competitions.
Al Dhaheri said: “Extending the period for holding jiu-jitsu competitions to become two days instead of one day as in previous editions, reflects the great demand for playing the game, and the efforts of the federation and the tournament organizing committee to accommodate unprecedented requests for participation by clubs and academies, based on their belief and conviction in the importance of providing… Opportunities for contact and competition for players, which will reflect positively on their performance and physical and mental development, and maintain high levels of physical fitness in preparation for a long season of tournaments and sporting events.”
Al Dhaheri praised the great technical level of the sons and daughters of the Emirates, especially at the level of the junior category, which represents special importance for the federation, as it is the cornerstone in preparing a generation of champions capable of continuing continental and global leadership in the sport of Jiu-Jitsu.

Adel Al-Bannai, Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament, confirmed that the tournament develops significantly year following year, and that Jiu-Jitsu succeeded this year in attracting more than 400 male and female players, which is double the number of players in previous editions, in a strong indication of the extent of the game’s spread. He praised the role of the Jiu-Jitsu Federation in spreading the sport and expanding the base of practitioners, until the game became at the forefront of sports that enjoyed great popularity within society.
Al-Bannai said: “The decision of the organizing committee of the Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament to allocate two days for jiu-jitsu competitions was a wise step, especially since this sport constitutes a great addition to the tournament in terms of the strength of the competition and the presence of elite rug players of different nationalities.”
Aisha Mohammed Al-Junaibi, the Baniyas Club “blue belt” player who won the junior women’s 63 kg gold medal, said: “I feel very happy to be on the podium in this strong tournament that brought together a group of the most prominent emerging female players, and the final fight was very enthusiastic and exciting once morest the female club player. Al Jazeera, Brazilian Julia de Oliveira, and we exchanged control over the course of the fight until the last moments, before I made a lightning move, through which I was able to resolve the situation in my favor.”
For his part, Yerali Khalilov from the Kazakh National Academy “Blue Belt”, who won gold in the 85-kg junior category, said: “Another wonderful tournament presented to us by the Jiu-Jitsu Federation and the Dubai Sports Council, and it is fortunate that I was one of the first to register in it, and indeed it was A valuable experience for me.”
He added, “The feeling of standing on the podium and getting a gold medal is beyond description. The tournament witnessed intense competition, with the presence of many players wanting to prove themselves. I fought several strong fights with players with different experiences and styles. Here lies the true value of such tournaments.”
Brazilian Renato Cardoso, a “black belt,” from the Commando Group Academy, who won gold in the master’s 100 kg category, said: “The tournament did not exceed our expectations, and the level we witnessed today in the master’s category competitions brought back memories of the strongest world championships organized by the federation, and most of the participating players.” They have previously competed in the most powerful tournaments, such as the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, the AJP and Grand Slam tournaments.”
He added: “Everyone here seeks to win and be crowned, which produced difficult fights that required us to deal with them with the highest levels of concentration and attention to the smallest details. There is no doubt that it is an important tournament that contributes to our preparation and enhances our readiness for the upcoming tournaments.”
