Dubai: Dubai’s main thoroughfare, Sheikh Zayed Road, will be closed on Sunday (November 12) morning to make way for the Dubai Ride public cycling event, the RTA said. Officials have announced alternative routes for motorists. The event is part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge. Dubai Ride routes will start at 6.15 am. The organizers have requested the participants to arrive 30 minutes early and start the ride at 7.30 am and finish at 8.15 am.

∙ Road closure
Sheikh Zayed Road will be closed from the Dubai Trade Center Tower Roundabout to the exit to Safa Park/Al Hadiqa Street. Also, the lower deck of Financial Center Street will be closed to traffic between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. Alternative routes for vehicles can be Al Wasl Street and Al Khail Road which run parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road.
∙ Dubai Ride Routes
This year the Dubai Ride has two routes. 4 km Downtown Family Route and 12 km on Sheikh Zayed Road. The 4km Downtown Family Route follows Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard and passes The Dubai Mall, Dubai Opera and Burj Khalifa. This is a flat route suitable for cyclists of all ages and abilities. The 12 km route takes place on Sheikh Zayed Road. This route is more challenging and best suited for experienced cyclists. Five different starting points for the ride will be provided for the convenience of the participants. Choose the most suitable one. Start and finish at the selected gate to complete the 12 km loop. The five starting gates to choose from are Museum of the Future, Al Satwa, Coca-Cola Arena, Business Bay and Lower Financial St. People are asked to register on the event’s website before participating.
