The jazz duo Dua Empat captivated the audience at the 2024 Gaia Music Festival at the Gaia Hotel, Bandung, Saturday (3/8). The Jazz Duo, fronted by guitarist duo and couple Alvin Ghazalie and Misi Lesar, performed their signature song, successfully creating a serene atmosphere that night.
They performed a song titled “Isn’t It Romantic?” which gives the essence of jazz romance with a happy vibe and poetic lyrics.
In addition, Dua Empat also performed a number of their songs from the album Some of My Best Friends Are Jazz Cats!, such as Destination Moon, Flor De Lis, Perdido. They also performed songs from the album Two of a Kind, such as Piccadilly and Siladen.
It is known that Dua Empat was founded as a Jazz Guitar Duo consisting of Alvin Ghazalie and Misi Lesar. Starting from friends who majored in Conservatory of Music, now they are a power duo. Their enthusiasm is getting bigger, inspiring them to cultivate jazz music among young people in Indonesia.
Their previous four albums: Two Of A Kind (2017), Swinging Down The Chimney (2017), Head In The Clouds (2021) & Some Of My Best Friends Are Jazz Cats! (2023) received great enthusiasm and now opens up opportunities to meet and collaborate with several caliber musicians, such as Benny Benack III (NYC), Keita Ogawa (Snarky Puppy), Endah N Rhesa, Mondo Gascaro, Barry Likumahuwa, Ify Alyssa, Asteriska “Barasuara” and many more. Dua Empat was nominated in two categories at the 26th AMI Awards and won ‘Best Jazz Album’.
In recent years, Dua Empat has also had the opportunity to perform at several festivals in Indonesia and Asia: Singapore Jazz Festival, Java Jazz Festival, Joey Alexander Asia Tour, Jazz Gunung Bromo, Ubud Village Jazz Festival, Jazz Goes To Campus, Hari Jazz Indonesia are some of them. (M-4)
