Kuwait City: The Kuwait Municipality is considering law reform, including increasing fines for violations such as drying clothes on the balcony. The Council’s Legal and Financial Committee has been tasked with reviewing a new draft ordinance on public sanitation and garbage transportation by the Kuwait Municipality. The proposal imposes heavy fines for drying clothes on balconies of buildings. Currently, hanging clothes to dry on balconies and windows is punishable by a fine of 100 dinars to 300 dinars.
It is proposed to raise it to 500 dinars. The aim is to prevent the drying of clothes on the balcony and the stacking of furniture etc. Grilling meat is not allowed in public places such as streets, squares, public parks, waterfronts, and government-owned properties. This will be written separately at the permitted place. A fine of 5,000 dinars to 2,000 dinars will be imposed if grilling is done in a different place. Piling of furniture in a way that detracts from the beauty of buildings and washing things like carpets on the road will lead to heavy fines.
