It has been part of our good resolutions at the start of the year for five years. Alongside commitments to practice more sport or stop smoking, Dry January was added, literally “Dry January”, renamed “the January Challenge” in the language of Molière. It consists of abstaining during the first month of the year from consuming beer, wine and alcoholic spirits.

Imported from Great Britain in 2020, the concept crossed the Channel first in relative anonymity before settling in to go beyond the simple slogan. According to an OpinionWays survey carried out last December for JNPR, a young brand of non-alcoholic spirits, “29% of French people have decided or are considering taking up the January Challenge”. First for health reasons (45%) and then to counterbalance the excesses of the holidays (32%).
