Druzeva oil pipeline leak in Russia… Comprehensive technical malfunctions

Stable oil supply to Germany… “Looks like it’s already been restored”

A crude oil spill occurred at one point in the Druzeba pipeline linking Russia, Eastern Europe and Germany.

PERN, a Polish oil pipeline operator, announced on the 12th (local time) that a crude oil spill was detected at the Drusva pipeline connecting Russia, Eastern Europe and Germany.

According to Archyde.com, the company detected a leak in one of the pipelines that make up the Druzeva pipeline the previous evening, but has yet to determine the cause.

However, the company added that the remaining oil pipelines that did not leak are operating normally.

Germany’s economic ministry said the oil supply remains stable even following the leak.

The Druzhva pipeline has been used to supply oil from eastern Russia via Ukraine to Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Eastern Europe and Germany.

Russia said the leak was just an accident and the problem appears to have been resolved.

“I know there was a technical malfunction,” said Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak at the Russian Energy Week forum in Moscow on the same day.

Conflict between Russia and the West is escalating as Russia counteracted Western energy sanctions with gas supply cuts following it invaded Ukraine at the end of February.

At the end of last month, four leaks, presumed to have been caused by explosions, occurred in the Nordstream-1 and 2 submarine gas pipelines in the waters of Denmark and Sweden, further exacerbating the energy crisis.
