Reckless Driver Arrested After Posting 200 KM/H Driving Video Online

Three serious accidents, leading to three injuries, rocked the Veliko Tarnovo region last week, highlighting the alarming prevalence of dangerous driving behaviors.

Speeding Driver Shows Off Reckless Driving Online

One particularly alarming incident involved a 32-year-old man from the village of Kamen. Around midnight on December 6th and 7th, he crashed a foreign car into a factory fence near the village on the road to Gorna Oryahovitsa. Shockingly, the man had previously posted a video online demonstrating his reckless driving, with the car speeding at an incredible 200 kilometers per hour.

Incapacitated and Under the Influence

“Responding to the accident, our team encountered a driver who was incapacitated. Following an alcohol test, his blood alcohol content registered a staggering 0.97 per mille, and he also tested positive for cannabis. Pre-trial proceedings for hooliganism by car are being initiated at the District Office in Stražitsa,” explained Senior Inspector Pencho Hristov of the traffic police.

As of now, no formal punishment has been imposed on the driver, who remains hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the crash.

Calls for Speed Cameras Grow Louder

In light of these alarming incidents, residents from villages such as Samovodene, Polikraishte, and Vaglevtsi have launched campaigns calling for the implementation of stationary speed cameras as a preventative measure.

“We have taken swift action by informing the General Directorate about the urgent need for these measures here,” stated Inspector Hristov in response to the growing public concern.
