On the night of January 1st to 2nd, an accident occurred in Hann Maristes. Abdou D., who was driving under the influence of alcohol, hit vehicles parked on the side of the road, before disappearing from traffic. Informed of the facts, the Hann gendarmerie arrested the driver the next day.
Abdou D. was tried jointly with his friend Ibrahima ST. The two men, aged 30 and 33 respectively, had left Dalifort to return to Hann Maristes on January 2, around 5 a.m. Arriving at the Japanese school boulevard, Abou D., who was driving a Mitsubishi vehicle, hit cars head-on, causing significant material damage. After this shock, Abdou took a tangent.

When elements of the Hann gendarmerie went to the scene, they found Ibrahima ST dead drunk. Questioned regarding the facts, he indicated that the vehicle belonged to the company which employed him as a driver. Since he was drunk, he fell asleep at the wheel. It was in these circumstances that Abdou D. took him out of the car and placed him in the back seat. Abdou then took the risk of driving.
Once at Japanese School Boulevard, he lost control of the vehicle and hit no fewer than three cars parked at the edge of the sidewalk. Arrested the next day, Abdou D. admitted that he was driving without a license and drunk. Besides, he says, it was his partner who taught him how to drive during the day. Imprisoned on January 5, the defendants appeared at the flagrante delicto hearing in Dakar. Targeted for lack of control, lack of permit, hit and run and destruction of property, Abdou D. confessed directly.

The caterer reported that his co-defendant stopped on a street where attacks were taking place. Reason why he took the risk of driving. Abdou D. thus presented his apologies to the court. As for Ibrahima ST, he refuted the charge of giving a vehicle to a third party who did not hold a license. “I didn’t ask Abdou to drive. I was sleeping at the time of the accident. It was the noise that woke me up,” said the divorced father of one.
The prosecution, finding the facts consistent, requested the application of the law. Committed by Ibrahima ST, Mbaye Sène and Iba Mar Diop pleaded for release. However, they admitted that their client made the mistake of drinking alcohol when getting behind the wheel.

In his deliberations, the judge sentenced Abdou D. to a three-month suspended sentence and a fine of 50,000 francs. Ibrahima ST was released. The two friends thus found freedom.
