ACCOMMODATIONS. As anticipated earlier this year, the Drummond Housing Office (OHD) still expects to have to help at least as many households as last year during the moving season. The organization has equipped itself with tools to deal with the housing crisis.
“In terms of numbers, we are in a comparable situation, even slightly better than last year. What makes us more confident is that the market for more expensive apartments has slowed. We hope that this trend will continue in order to curb the rise in rental costs that we see in lower markets, ”said David Bélanger, director general of the OHD.
Remember that, on July 1, 2022, 135 households found themselves without housing in Drummondville.
Housing reservation agreements have been signed with landlords with the aim of housing people with lower incomes. “We are once once more well prepared to face the crisis this year. We have developed skills and tools over the past three years. We feel better equipped to deal with the crisis,” added Mr. Bélanger.
Furthermore, the OHD is approaching its housing acquisition objectives. A total of 89 units have been purchased out of the target of 150. The General Manager is confident that the target will be reached over the next year.
A new housing project will soon be under construction on Emilia Street. Being the last made with the help of the AccèsLogis program of the Government of Quebec, an announcement must be made by the OHD during the summer. According to the resolution adopted at the last council of mayors of the MRC of Drummond, a building with more than 13 apartments is in the pipeline.
