Alabama Shakes’ drummer Steve Johnson is in custody following being charged with child abuse. Already on Wednesday (March 24) the police in Limestone County, Alabama, took him into custody.
According to reports from theAssociated PressHe was charged with the intentional torturing, intentional abuse and cruel beating or other intentional ill-treatment of a child under the age of 18. The reading of the indictment is scheduled for April 7, 2021.
Johnson has a criminal record
Steve Johnson had already pleaded guilty to a protective order violation last March. He was subsequently sentenced to one year in prison, with a 24-month suspended sentence.
Alabama Shakes has been on hiatus since 2018 as singer Brittany Howard focuses on her solo career. Her last album “Sound & Color” was released in 2015.
So far, neither Howard nor other members of the band have commented on the incidents and Johnson’s arrest.
