The controversial border controls between Austria and Slovenia exposed a case of drug smuggling on Sunday night. As reported by the Carinthian State Police Directorate, a driver entered Austria at 2.30 a.m. at the Seebergsattel border crossing (Völkermarkt district). He got out during the police check and fled to Slovenia. The police officers then found 5.5 kilograms of herbal cannabis in a sack behind the passenger seat.

The banned narcotic was packaged in ten vacuum-sealed bags of 550 grams each, it said. Further inquiries regarding the registration holder and the person who fled would now be carried out via the Slovenian police. The car is registered in Slovenia.
