Six people were the subject of a judicial arrest, two of whom were placed under arrest warrant, during an operation to fight once morest drug trafficking carried out last Wednesday in Charleroi, the Charleroi public prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday. and the local police in a joint statement.

Since August 28, the local police have been carrying out a continuous operation called “Disruption”, the objective of which is to “ensure a visible and concrete presence throughout the city center, improve the security of citizens and merchants, and combat the feeling of insecurity.” In a first report published Tuesday, the Charleroi police specify that 2,391 people have been checked since the end of August. Sixty-two people were subject to judicial arrest and four of them, including those cited above, were placed under arrest warrant. Sixty-nine others were administratively arrested for illegal residence.
The Charleroi police add that operations of this type (road checks, police presence near schools, etc.) “will continue to occur on a regular basis in 2023”.
