“Drowned on a mission with the Mossad” –

A commemorative plaque was dedicated to the two secret agents, Claudio Alonzi and Tiziana Barnobi, who died in the tragic shipwreck that occurred a year ago in the waters of Lake Maggiore. This gesture finally confirms that the two 007s were involved in a delicate operational mission and were not present on site only to participate in a birthday party between Italian and Mossad colleagues. The plaque bears the following writing: “He lost his life in the waters of Lake Maggiore on 28 May while carrying out a delicate operational activity with foreign related services”. Official confirmation of the involvement of the two agents in the mission came during the March 22 ceremony dedicated to the Fallen of the Security Information Services, as reported on the government website dedicated to the Security Information System of the Republic.

The report ordered by the Busto Arsizio Prosecutor’s Office to investigate the causes of the shipwreck of the “Gooduria” boat, which occurred on 28 May 2023 in Lake Maggiore, was filed on 18 March. The boat sank at a depth of 16 meters, causing the death of four people, including Anya Bozhkova, 50, wife of Claudio Carminati, owner and commander of the boat, who survived. According to the expert, Carminati did not give sufficient weight to the weather warning regarding bad weather and made unregistered modifications to the boat. A further factor that contributed to the shipwreck was the overcrowding of the vessel, with 8 more passengers than allowed, 23 instead of the 15 expected.

Among those present on the boat on May 28 were twenty-one secret agents, in addition to Carminati and his wife, gathered for what was then said to be a birthday party. Among the victims of the shipwreck, in addition to the two Aise agents, Claudio Alonzi, 62 years old, and Tiziana Barnobi, 53 years old, there were Anya Bozhkova and Mossad 007 Shimoni Erez, 54 years old. An official reconstruction which confirms that the 23 were on the boat for a “delicate” operational mission and it may be that this is also why they were unable to take the weather alert into account and did not take shelter in port as soon as the storm arrived. It is not yet clear what type of mission it was.
