The Holy Week It has left in Spain more than summer temperatures -the weather that it left on Sunday was typical of the beginning of June-, nothing usual for that holiday season in the country. Although citizens have been able to enjoy higher than normal temperatures and a warm landscape, the predictions for this week do not seem so appealing. From the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) they announce the arrival of a squall Atlantic that will cause a “sudden and important” change in temperatures.
According to the agency, several storms that will be accompanied by rains and a “remarkable” descentor of the temperatures that will begin this Monday and that will predictably intensify on Tuesday, at which time a storm will enter the scene over the western Mediterranean, while on Thursday, April 21, a storm will arrive in the Atlantic.
from this Easter Monday, for some, the thermal change will already begin to be felt in the interior of the peninsula, but in Aragón and the east of Castilla-La Mancha more intense storms will be observed. Likewise, rainfall is expected in the extreme north of the country with a cold front. In Galicia weak rains will be observed, as well as in the Cantabrian communities, while in the followingnoon the “increased instability” will be noticed. As for the weather, temperatures will drop a bit, but they will continue to exceed 25 degrees in the center, south and east.
Thermal collapse from Tuesday
As for the second and third day of the week, Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be showers and storms in the eastern half and the Balearic Islands, although with greater incidence in areas near the coast and the mountains, caused by the Mediterranean storm. It is on these two days when the “sudden” change in weather will be appreciated, according to the Aemet spokesman, Rubén del Campo, due to the arrival of a mass of cold air with a greater drop in temperatures with drops that can exceed 12 degrees at maximum.
It will be then when, in the words of the expert, we will find temperatures more typical of winter, at the end of February, and not summer. “The temperatures are going to plummetthere will be a notable drop in the entire peninsula and even extraordinary,” he says. On Tuesday, specifically, there might be 10 degrees less than Monday in much of the northern half and some points in the center, such as Valladolid (12 degrees maximum), Burgos (8 degrees maximum) and Madridwhich will go from 26-27 degrees to 16-17 degrees on Tuesday.
“There will be an extraordinary drop”
In addition to these forecasts, the Aemet warns of the return of the snow, with levels that will range between 1,000 and 1,200 meters, that is, it will snow in the mountainous territories of the northern half and the east of the country, although it is a low level for the time of year. With less probability, there may be rain in the western half.
On Thursday, the storm will have spread further, leaving its path only in the eastern end and the Balearic Islands and it will be then that it begins to affect the western part of Spain, bringing with it widespread showerss that will be distributed to other areas between Friday and Saturday. However, the heaviest precipitation will most likely occur on the southern slopes of mountain systems. Already for the last day of the week, Sunday, it is expected that the rains will be less intense and move away towards the north.
