According to Ukrainian sources, several drones fell in a populated area in the city of Kharkiv during nighttime Russian attacks. “One of the drones destroyed two floors of a student residence,” Mayor Ihor Terekhov said via Telegram. “A fire has broken out and rescue workers are on site.” Images on social media show the roof of a building on fire with smoke billowing out. He speaks of three attacks on the city.
The region’s police chief, Volodymyr Tymoshko, says there were two attacks during the night – one on the university and one on the city center. The university building, which was empty at the time of the impact, was half destroyed. One person was injured in the city center, he told the state television station Suspilne.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian ambassador in Berlin, Oleksii Makeiev, sees no chance of a negotiated peace with Russia. “This peace must be fought for. And Russia must be defeated. Otherwise there will be no peace,” he told the newspapers “Rheinische Post” and “General-Anzeiger”. Russia might end the war quickly by withdrawing all of its troops from the occupied territories – including Crimea. At the same time, Makeiev warned of an escalation of the war. When asked regarding the possible use of Russian nuclear weapons, he replied: “We have seen that Putin is ready for anything. He can be trusted with anything.”
